It is a race for talent

February 24, 2012 Leave a comment
Several people sent me this excellent article, in which George Bradt, managing director of PrimeGenesis, argues that there are only three “true” job interview questions.
1.       Can you do the job?
2.       Will you love the job?
3.       Can we tolerate working with you?

This got me thinking, what are the three “true” questions for a candidate considering a new position:
1.       Will I be allowed to make an impact?
2.       Will I feel valued?
3.       Will I have fun?

Success is an “equal” partnership between employer and employee.  When you get it right, it feels like magic.  When it’s wrong, it affects everything.
Which is more important: what people DO or who they ARE? Is a company more powerful when it gets the WHO right or the WHAT?  While every situation is different, if I were given a choice, I’d choose the WHO.  As Zig Ziglar said, “Ability can take you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there.”
Maybe the most important question is, what do you believe in and why?  Just something to think about…

The Magic is in the Middle

When I was in 4th grade I entered my first race.  It was track and field day at my elementary school.  I can remember waiting for the start of the race and looking at the finish line (which was probably only about 40 yards) with fierce intensity.  Your mark, get set, go, I was off.  I remember the feeling of going at something with everything I got.  I did it, I won!  That started my addiction to what I believed was winning.  Winning as I defined then and how I have defined it until about 72 hours ago was all about the finish line, the end of the race.  I just realized its’ really the middle I’m addicted to, the all-out part where purpose and direction are defining.  This is the MAGIC , this is WHERE the race is won!

Who is Lou Holtz?

February 10, 2012 2 comments

For the past 2 days Govig Senior Care has spent our lunch hour watching a speech Lou Holtz gave at a Harvey Mackay  Round Table that our President Todd Govig had the pleasure of attending, the speech was very inspirational and motivating and I encourage all of you to find out a little more about Lou Holtz and what he has to say, it couldn’t hurt.

So here is a short video of Lou Holtz from You Tube

It is a fine thing to have ability, but the ability to discover ability in others is the true test.
